Scrapping – Creative Ideas

My scrapping has been sadly neglected for some time, too much happening. Recently on my blog I wrote about a trip to Bellagio on the waterfront at  Lake Como in Italy. I decided it was time to find some creative ideas and get scrapping on these photos. I still have some unused pages from the “All Dressed up Glitter Pack”.  Every now and then I find a set of photos with colors and subject matter that I can relate to a page from this pack, so have used the following pages in this instance.

Creative ideas for Scrapping – scroll work designs simple and attractive

Scrapping Page 1.Always thought it a pretty page but only now found a use for it. I placed my photos directly on this page as the photos stood out nicely against the dark-colored background without a mat.  I used large gold lettering for the title which also stands out against the dark background. The beauty of the glitter stacks is if you find a page that works really well, it then makes it quick and easy to complete.  Creative ideas are sometimes hard to come by, however scroll work  always appeals to me as a simple, yet elegant and subtle form of decoration for scrapping.

Scrapping Page 2: The second page,  green card stock  similar in color to one of the scrolls in the design of the first page, then a light blue mat and khaki underlay (both underlays pick up the colors of other scrolls on the first page). The pages are opposite one another in my album so I try to  use a complimentary color scheme. I picked up a packet with a white shimmery ‘stick on scroll’ at a craft shop and used it to compliment the white scrolls on the opposite page (I should have picked up two packets of those, very nice I thought and could have used another one, haven’t been able to find any since). black rub-on scroll type transfers placed above and below the page notes add interest to the page and create a nice contrast.

Scrapping Page 3: Using the same patterned page as page 1, only this time I picked up the color of the pretty blue scroll work and used that color as an underlay, it enhances the photos which were too dark when placed directly onto the dark background. I felt using the dark pages with the scroll designs side by side was too much, the use of plain card stock on the opposite pages made them more complimentary to one another and the overall color theme. Scrapping with simple creative ideas, works well and enhances your photos.

Use underlays in reverse color application when scrapping

Scrapping Page 4: Same colored card stock as page 2. Enhanced again with the blue and khaki mat, only this time used in reverse color application (khaki and blue). Decoration in bottom left corner, hand drawn black scroll work over-layed with a piece of shimmery white scroll to relate the pages and keep the flow of color combinations.

Plan your color scheme and check card stock

Do you  know how annoying it is when you don’t plan far enough ahead. I’d now ran out of all the above colors except for the khaki, so had to change tack slightly, but tried to keep to the color scheme similar throughout.

Scrapping Page 5:  I chose a dark blue sheet with black design from the Glitter Stack, found another sheet of  blue card stock in almost the same toning as I used previously. Placed a double color mat under two photos to make them stand out better, and the single layer in blue only under the other two photos. This seems to balance out the page well. My notes are all  done in ‘Pristina’ font size 14, on the computer with a black border.

Scrapping with innovative and creative ideas

Scrapping Page 6:  I wanted to fit all these photos on one page, they related to a days adventure in Bellagio when we went exploring around the hills. I simply re-sized photos to fit, used a blue underlay, overlapped them on the khaki-colored page.

If you happen to run out of a color, use of a similar tone will keep the flow of the color scheme. Usually I have a good stock of everything, but I guess the lesson is to check thoroughly  what you plan to use before you start, especially if following a particular color scheme. However, with scrapping there is always room for innovation and  new creative ideas .

I love scrapping, sharing creative ideas and memories of wonderful holiday in beautiful places like Bellagio on the waterfront at Lake Como in Italy.
